Pizza Experiments You Have to Try: The Corner's Weekly Specialty Pies

A close-up image of a slice of pizza with colorful toppings dripping with cheese.

Everyone likes pizza, and there's no denying it. But pizza itself isn't where all the magic lies in this classic Italian dish; its customization makes pizza so great. With its millions of unique topping combinations, pizza can become whatever you dream.

At the Corner, we embrace everything that pizza can be. That's why, once a week, our chefs experiment to create an entirely new pie for our menu: Our Pizza Experiment. Each week, guests can try a completely new recipe straight from our kitchen to their tastebuds.

We invite our guests to be creative at home, too! Just because you missed a pizza experiment from the past doesn't mean you can't take inspiration from our culinary scientists and make it yourself. This month, The Corner will walk you through how to make your own pizza experiment at home and share some of our favorite experiments from the past that you simply have to try!

How to Make Pizza at Home

Making pizza at home sounds tricky, but it's easier and way more fun than you think. Let's break it down into simple steps that anyone can follow:

1. Gather Your Ingredients

The dough will need flour, yeast, water, salt, and a drizzle of olive oil. As for toppings, the sky's the limit! You can always stick with classic marinara and mozzarella or go wild and get creative!

2. Prepare the Dough

Now comes the fun part---making the dough! Kneading it can be surprisingly therapeutic. Follow a simple recipe (keep reading for one below), or experiment with your dough-making process. Once your dough is ready, let it rise until it is puffy.

3. Assemble Your Experiment

Time to shape your dough! Whether you want a classic round pie or a square one like we have at The Corner, roll or stretch it out. Spread your sauce, sprinkle on the cheese, and artfully arrange those toppings.

4. Bake to Perfection

Preheat your oven to get it nice and hot. Slide your pizza onto a stone or baking sheet, and in a little while, you'll have a golden-crusted pizza ready to devour!

How to Make Pizza Dough (Easy!)

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (around 110 F)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Whisk together the flour, salt, and yeast in a big bowl.
  2. Make a little well in the center and pour in the warm water and olive oil.
  3. Mix everything together using a wooden spoon or your hands until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp towel, and let it rise for about an hour until it doubles in size.
  6. Once it's risen, punch down the dough to release the air, and it's ready to be shaped and topped however you like!
